Whatsapp is the most used Messaging platform these days with almost more than a billion users. Most of the conversations these days are happening over Whatsapp and people had already stopped using messages except for OTPs.
Most of you might be thinking how Whatsapp earns money as there are no ads on Whatsapp. But, Whatsapp is acquired by Facebook now and although Whatsapp doesn’t make money directly but helps Facebook in making money.
For example, while signing up one has to provide their mobile Number and personal details etc. These data will be stored in Whatsapp servers and will be used for Research purposes. And other primary source of income is DATA MINING.
The messages that you send to your friends is passed through Whatsapp servers. Although Whatsapp claims that they won’t access the messages that you are sending, they can actually access all the data. Based on the data that they obtain from Whatsapp, you will be shown ads on Facebook. For example, if you discuss about the new pair of shoes that you want to buy, when you open Facebook you will be shown all the brands of shoes on websites like Amazon with luring offers. As you had already thought of buying shoes, you will browse through the list and will end up buying a pair.
So, Whatsapp helps in this way to companies like Facebook to earn money through ads. Whatsapp is planning to introduce real time money transfer in India and had already tied up with Major Banks like SBI, HDFC and ICICI Bank. So, In Future we will be able to send money via Whatsapp Messenger and Whatsapp might charge a nominal fee as Service Charge.
